Dance for the Pets
An Annual Dance to benefit the No-Kill Shelters in Albuquerque, New Mexico
Home Page

Won't you join us on 3-27-2010 ?

In 2008, the economy crashed.  Businesses closed, banks had trouble staying afloat, people lost their jobs, people lost their homes.  And in all of this despair, pets lost their forever homes.  Shelters were overcome with pets being relinquished because their owners couldn't take them to their new home.  And amidst this turmoil, donations were dwindling.

As a animal lover and a concerned citizen, something had to be done to help the shelters who chose to keep their animals until homes could be found.  So, in conversation with my husband, the Dance for the Pets Benefit was born.

We secured the hall for free, asked our fellow square dance and country western friends who taught and called to join us, we asked dancers to help, and most importantly, we asked the residents of Albuquerque, New Mexico to come, enjoy a day of dancing - square dancing, line dancing, country western dancing, and contra dancing - for a donation of $10.00 per person. We organized a pot luck dinner and asked two shelters to bring animals looking for forever homes to join us.  We didn't know what to expect but what we got overwhelmed us.  We took in over $1500.00 and 3 dogs were adopted.  Amazing..

So with that in mind, we move to 2010 with a hope of bringing in more people, more money, and more donations to help benefit the local no-kill shelters that house, feed, and find homes for pets that have been abandoned, relinquished, or rescued from other shelters.
